Champions League
The UEFA Champions League (known colloquially as the European Cup) is an annual club football competition organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) for the most successful football clubs in Europe. It is one of the most prestigious club trophies in the sport. It has a global audience of more than a billion people.
The UEFA Champions League 2008-09 will be the 54th edition of the European Championship Football Club Tournament and 17th edition under the current UEFA Champions League format. The final is scheduled to be played at Stadio Olimpico, Rome, on Wednesday 27th May 2009.
It is the eighth time the European Cup final has been held in Italy and the fourth time it has been held at the Stadio Olimpico. Manchester United are the defending champions, having won the trophy the previous season.
